Tesla unveils its largest Supercharger station in the US — and it kind of looks like a truck stop

About halfway between Los Angeles and the Bay Area, right off Interstate 5, is the tiny town of Kettlemen City. It’s home to a cheese factory, a hazardous waste facility, and as of today, the largest Tesla Supercharger station in the country. It has solar rooftops and a lounger for vehicle owners to hang out while their Tesla car recharges. And if you look closely, you’ll notice that the layout of the station mimics a truck stop, which sure is interesting when you consider that Tesla is unveiling its first semi truck this evening.

While the Kettlemen station isn’t the largest in the world — that honor goes to the 50-stall Supercharger station currently under construction in Shanghai — it...

How the Science Channel is rebooting MythBusters with a new team

MythBusters is back. Tonight, the Science Channel is resurrecting its reality show where two hosts test out a bunch of urban legends, usually with a hefty dose of science, engineering, and explosions thrown in.

The original MythBusters ran for 14 seasons with hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, and a secondary build team of Tory Belleci, Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, as well as Scottie Chapman, and Jessi Combs for a couple of seasons. That incarnation of the show ended in 2015, with Savage and Hyneman closing out the show with a special “send-off” season. The original MythBusters have since moved on to other projects: Belleci, Byron, and Imahara now host The White Rabbit Project on Netflix; Hyneman is working on a bunch of neat gadgets;...

Apple fires iPhone X engineer after daughter’s hands-on video goes viral

Apple has reportedly dismissed an engineer after his daughter’s iPhone X hands-on video went viral on YouTube. Brooke Amelia Peterson published a vlog earlier this week, which included a trip to the Apple campus to visit her father and see an unreleased iPhone X. Peterson’s video was quickly picked up by sites like 9to5Mac, and it spread even further on YouTube.

Peterson now claims her father has been fired as a result of her video. In a tearful video, Peterson explains her father violated an Apple company rule by allowing her to film the unreleased handset at Apple’s campus. Apple reportedly requested that Peterson remove the video, but it was clearly too late as the content spread further and further.

T-Mobile is offering $300 off an iPhone X if you trade in your current iPhone

All the major US carriers are announcing their iPhone X deals, and now T-Mobile is joining the party with an offer that’s pretty similar to what Verizon and Sprint have on tap: trade in your current “qualifying” iPhone, and T-Mobile will give you up to $300 off your iPhone X.

Like Verizon, you’ll have to purchase the iPhone on one of T-Mobile’s installment plans (either the regular “Equipment Installment Plan” or the company’s Jump! On Demand leasing program, which allows for more frequent upgrading, with the trade off of never actually owning your phone).

And that $300 discount? How it’s doled out depends on the trade-in value of your phone. T-Mobile says that any iPhone from the iPhone 6 or newer — except for the SE— qualifies, but...

Yeah, they're just buying it for less than market price. You're better off selling yourself.

Senators announce new bill that would regulate online political ads

As tech companies face continued scrutiny over Russian activity on their ad platforms, Senators today announced legislation meant to regulate political ads on the internet.

The new bill, called the Honest Ads Act, would require companies like Facebook and Google to keep copies of political ads and make them publicly available. Under the act, the companies would also be required to release information on who those ads were targeted to, as well as information on the buyer and the rates charged for the ads. The new rules would bring disclosure rules more in line with how political ads are regulated in mediums like print and TV, and apply to any platform with more than 50...
